  • Description: In 430 B.C. in Kos, the founding father of medicine, Hippocrates, comes into conflict with the priesthood of the island, is condemned for the novel methods of treatment he is applying - and is forced into voluntary exile in Athens. In “the cradle of democracy” he makes continual advances in medicine by offering people relief from pain and healing based on scientific knowledge rather than superstition and beliefs. He meets prominent personalities such as Socrates, Phidias and Euripides and is influenced by his deep friendship with Pericles and Aspasia. When the Peloponnesian War causes the plague to spread, Hippocrates tries to find a cure that might save Athens. He himself wins his own battle with death, but his beloved wife, who stood by his side all these difficult years, ends up dying from the disease.
